I had an interview this morning with a science-themed staffing agency to see if they could help me find something awesome. Two days ago she asked me to please fill out an on-line questionnaire and be at the interview by 10 am, specifically asking that I bring three things:
- The diploma from my university
- My complete set of papers authorizing me to work in the US.
- A list of three professional references.
-My work papers were quickly made into a pile on the kitchen table.
-Three professional references... I could whip up a list.
Questionnaire
Because of the birthday I planned on just doing the entire questionnaire this morning before leaving. I quickly realized, however, that it would take more time than I had anticipated. With the interview looming close I strained my nimble fingers to fill in the required personal info.
Just as I got to the last page (I figured I was already late by now), a message popped up on their company website: "An error has occurred with your application. For assistance, please call 1-800 blah, blah ..."
References
Realizing that I needed to bring at least some of what they requested, I quickly typed up a list. I unfortunately never printed it out.
Work Papers
Well, I still had to get to the interview even if I couldn't get all the papers they wanted so I took off like a kid out of school to get there close to on time. First off, I called ahead and told Sherry that I would be late. As I pulled onto the freeway I realized my work papers were still on the kitchen table. Oh well.
Diploma
I got there and she was forgiving and kind. She handed me a paper application which took about an hour to fill out. We talked about job possibilities, etc. She finally said I was free to go. The only thing I had managed to bring had gone unused. I left with my college diploma under my arm, still closed up in it's little case.
