So everyone, every once in a while a person finds something perplexing that the rest of the world seems to accept, or at least ignore. Today, as in days past, I was wondering about the "Proof of Purchase" found on product labels.
The "Proof of Purchase" on a product really only proves that someone, at one time, had the product. This little scrap of paper or plastic gives no evidence of how it was acquired. Such possession could have occurred in any number of ways (and these can be arranged in any number of combinations):
- Stealing
- Buying
- Borrowing
- Finding
- Checking out from a library
- Inheriting
- etc.
There really isn't anything I can do about it. The system is in place and moves forward, unstoppable. The proof is proving nothing; there are holes in the logic. But I guess I should get used to it because that is just how life is in lots of ways.

yeah i know, huh. i used to think about this when cereal boxes had prizes you could get if you sent in the appropriate number of proof of purchases along with the tear-out card. this enigma it still baffles me.
