Hospice Training

So in my pursuit to change the world for the better I decided to start volunteering at a hospice. I emailed the lady and on April 23 she emailed back saying, "I have an orientation set up for tomorrow night at 6:30pm and would love if you would be able to attend (plan on about 1-2 hours)."

So I did plan on attending for 1-2 hours on April 24. When we got there she paused after about an hour and a half of small-talk-mixed-with-training she paused and said that we should plan on getting back together next week to finish up and that we would just go at it till 9pm and get everything else out of the way.

"Okay," I thought, "I guess we'll spread it out over two days." And I promptly forgave her in my heart.

The next week I arrived at her office ready to wrap things up and she pulled out a large ream of paper full of how to be a hospice volunteer. Included in the packet were tests on each section to ascertain how well you understood the section.

She continued, "So we can meet next week at the same time to go over our answers and any other questions you might have. Sound good?"

Being terrified of confrontation I agreed that it sounded quite good.

The following week (today) I arrived and was introduced to another packet of forms used for tracking our visits with patients. I thought it was a great idea to track visits and waited for us to finally finish our training that I had blocked off 1-2 hours for back on Tuesday, April 24.

Our trainer continued, "But you know I got a crown on a tooth today and I really don't think I can go on. Is it okay if we finish next week?"

Still scared of pointing out that I had spent more time driving to training than I initially planned on spending at training I agreed that it would be great if we waited till next week to "finish training". For all I know "finishing training" is just a euphemism for not quite finishing and then rescheduling for next week. I suppose one possibility was that the original message wasn't supposed to say "1-2 hours", but ought to have read "1-2 months", in which case it was simply a few misplaced letters.

Anyway, maybe one of you could anonymously tell her to finally finish training the volunteers so I don't have to? What do you think?

she's wasting valuable time that should be spent helping those in need by continuing to stretch out training. you're probably well enough trained to just go to the hospice now, so my advice is to skip the rest and just start volunteering. what? like that's against the rules or something?!
