Summer

Summer Begins
Ahhh... having finished the last episode of LOST, the Office and Heroes (which I only watched online), I am now ready to enjoy life to its fullest all summer long without the numbing effect of TV to drag me and my evening schedule down. It was a little embarrassing to be making plans around episodes.

My Inspiration
Thinking of the things I love most about summer, I remembered the summer of '04 in the brown house, when Travis bought a BBQ and we grilled several times a day all summer long. It was really pretty awesome to come home from work and only minutes later bite into a freshly cooked burger.

Present Reality
Last year we got a BBQ from a neighbour who had just bought a new one – it has been sitting unused in our back yard ever since. When I mentioned that I wanted to get its tank refilled to another neighbour, he told me where to go for a deal on propane. I pulled the tank off the BBQ, drove across town, pulled it out of my van and waited for the 15-year-old propane jockey to come give me a hand.

"We don't fill those," he said with a slight accent. "That's a [some sort of nozzle name I think]. We don't have nozzles that fit that kind of tank. It's old."

"Do you know where I can take it and they can get it filled?"

"I don't think anyone does those anymore."

Never mind that I was already salivating at the thought of my Burgerfest 2007. Never mind that I already bought probably 30 patties in anticipation. Never mind that for the last week I've been dreaming about cooking out of doors. Never mind that in 2 months we're probably going to move to a house with a built-in grill so it isn't worth buying one now. I'll just make do with a frying pan in the kitchen.
