An integral part of rural Louisiana culture

Does anyone want to plan a trip to Luisiana sometime soon? The reason I ask is that legal cockfighting's days are numbered. I don't really want to go, but if you do, start planning now. It is the last state where it is allowed, and soon it won't even be okay there.

As of August 2008, no states in the USA will allow further competition in this "sport". Proponents apparently have defended it because it is "an integral part of rural Louisiana culture". Interesting.

I once ate the losing participant of a cockfight. The unfortunate athlete was made into a curry and served over rice. I hear he was a champ for some time, but he had a bad match. One thing I can vouch for: The cocks in these fights come out of the experience neither more tasty, nor more tender. In fact sometimes they don't come out at all.
