Groceries

I have something to admit:

When I check my self out of the grocery store and am ready to pay, sometimes I’m that guy who can’t figure out why my credit card isn’t going through and looks at the self-checkout supervisor like it is her problem. After a little bit of this she usually motions to the screen and says, “You need to push the PAY NOW button.”

It is always terribly embarrassing, but I guess it is not so bad that I won’t do it again in a few months.

i'm a little embarrassed for you, like how i'm embarrassed for my mom when she does the same thing at the grocery store. or when she asks where her wallet is and she's actually holding it.

how come it won't happen again for a few months?

I'll shamefully admit that I do the same thing...

Janelle, it will happen again because I will forget to remain humble. In a flagrant fit of pride I will come to believe that everything I do will succeed, but that if it does not succeed, it is someone else's fault. I'm sure you can see the cycle more clearly now.

Brit, there is strength in numbers. Maybe we could form a lobby to have "pay now" removed from self check registers?

Oh man, I'm convinced that the geniuses who invented those things made that extra "please press the PAY NOW" button on purpose so that everyone would feel dumb at least once...On the flip side however, at work I have to hit the credit/debit pay button on the computer so that people can swipe their cards. However, I usually forget and sometimes people swipe their cards 2-3 times before I remember to hit the button so it actually works...grrr. The good thing is that most of the time people think it's their card that isn't working and not me.
