Holding Down the Fort 101

This week is my week to hold down the fort. Janelle is gone to Texas to hang with friends and I am left here to do whatever you do when your significant other is gone for a while. As the holder-down-the-fort (hold-down-the-forter?) I think I have managed the first two days pretty well. I've decided that for those of us who tend to dislike this separation, there are a few things you can do to keep your mind off the distance and help time fly by. Without further ado, I present my tips on holding down the fort:
  1. Consume as many "comfort foods" as possible. For example, my meals so far have consisted almost entirely of smoothies, popcorn, and grilled cheese sandwiches. I anticipate adding ice cream as soon as I finish here.
  2. Do something. Being bored makes you remember that you can't go hang out like normal. I remedied that one by going swimming with my nephew, Oliver, this afternoon. He is pretty much the most awesome nephew I've ever had. I also did a bunch of other work that needed to be done. I was going to go shopping too (is that weird for a guy to go shopping by himself?) but Gateway was already closing when I finished up at the library.
  3. Download music from iTunes that you've been meaning to download, but haven't got around to. I scoured iTunes for songs from Travis that I haven't managed to buy yet. Five or six bucks later, I am as happy as can be with awesomeness dripping from my computer's speakers.
That brings me to another point: Scott called yesterday and asked if I'd be interested in meeting up somewhere along Travis' recently announced US tour. So far it looks like we might be going to Texas in July!

Another thing I didn't initiate: I heard from my dear old friend Dave Buck. He joined the Army and sold the condo where we were living back in March and I haven't heard from him since. He called and left a message today. It is always so good to hear from close friends that have been out of touch. Thanks Dave.

And there you have it: the fort-holding seems to be going pretty well. Let's pray that I can get to Monday without any lasting damage.

andrew, i'd just like make an addendum to our previous conversation with the girls about who's copying who. i don't think that needs much elaboration.

i miss you.

Janelle, it isn't copying if it's destiny that drives you to a certain state. It's fate. Don't judge me. I miss you too.
