Finished!

I'm done with Harry Potter! I won't ruin anything here (I pledged that I wouldn't ruin it a while ago). I liked it tons though. A little long, but that didn't stop me from going through it with as little delay as possible. The first half I read with Janelle aloud, but I burned through the last half by myself since last night.

Part of me hates when I enjoy something this immensely because, if I love something, I want to emulate it. Problem is, it is hard to just whip up a childrens fiction series. Trust me: I've tried.

I used to notice this phenomenon (some call it jealousy) when I'd go see a great band. When I got home and was away from friends, my first inclination was to grab my bass and start practicing so I could try to convince myself that I was as good a bassist as that guy I just saw. Unfortunately, I usually was the lesser of the bassists.

I should really look out for that because later this week I'll be seeing one of my favorite bassists in the world: Douggie Payne of Travis fame. While I will undoubtedly be ecstatic at the concert, I know I'll have to deal with the resentment of him being so good, and me being not quite as good.

It's kind of a Harry Potter/Dumbledore thing that is going on between me and other bassists. Even though we are allies united under the banner of rock and roll, every once in a while there is some tension.
