The other night, I was working with Janelle on getting some stuff I'd written phrased correctly, so we were struggling to find all the right words, phrases, and structures. One of the paragraphs was about beetles and things I'd learned studying beetles.
Before we go any further, I should mention that my house is a clean house where the windows and doors all close rather firmly. Somewhat regular cleaning and tidying have prevented most pests from taking up residence. That said, let us continue.
As we read, I heard a muffled sound of tiny membranous wings beating near my head. Next thing I knew, a rather large beetle was sitting directly on the paragraph I had just written about beetles. It took only moments for me to recognize it as a Cerambycid, or long-horned beetle - one of the few types of beetle I can still pick out easily.
I took that to be a sign that whatever I was writing had gained the approval of the heavens. My only regret now is that I did not save the little guy for inclusion in the Monte L. Bean Museum of Natural History's Cerambicidae collection. Dr Clark would have been disappointed, I'm sure.
